The project “THE WORD FOR MUSIC – THE LINGUISTIC MECHANISMS OF A MUSICAL SONG’S LYRICS”

The project “THE WORD FOR MUSIC – THE LINGUISTIC MECHANISMS OF A MUSICAL SONG’S LYRICS” is associated with the organization of an event aimed at promoting and supporting the panorama of musical productions and contemporary authors in our region and the Northeast who pay particular attention to the literary content of lyrics. It also involves collecting and publishing data, documentation, and contributions to highlight, both historically and evolutionarily, the significance and communicative impact of the literary and linguistic content of lyrics.

After an initial meeting in November, there will be two musical evenings featuring some singer-songwriters and artists from the region.

The detailed program is as follows:

Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at 8:00 PM
Casa della Musica Auditorium, Via dei Capitelli 3, Trieste

Performing and sharing their stories: Omar Giorgio Makhloufi, Cortellino, Massimo Serli, Giovanni Zacchigna

Omar Giorgio Makhloufi

An adopted Triestino, actor, director, and playwright, Omar Giorgio Makhloufi has been pursuing another great passion, music, for the past couple of years. He recently released the EP “Fuori Luogo vol. 1” recorded live. Born in 1993 in Calabria to an Arbëreshë mother and an Algerian father, he grew up in Piacenza. In 2018, he graduated as an actor from the Civica Accademia D’arte Drammatica Nico Pepe in Udine, and he moved to Trieste in 2019, where he founded the company Artifragili. Passionate about music from a young age and influenced by the best of English singer-songwriters (Beatles, Kinks, Bowie, Nick Drake), he plays the guitar and ukulele. He deepened his musical and authorial knowledge at the Udine Theater School, where he formed his first musical band (iSiamo). Today, he composes in Italian, citing Rino Gaetano as one of his influences.

Cortellino
Enrico Cortellino made his debut in 2007 under the pseudonym Cortex (now abandoned) for the Arab Sheep label. He has released four official albums (about ten if you count demos and self-productions) and has been awarded by Mogol twice. The first time was in 2008 when he also won a scholarship for the CET, where he graduated as an “Interpreter of Italian Popular Music,” and the second award came in 2016. His latest album is “Solo quando sbaglio” from 2019, followed by several singles. In late October, he released “Rivoluzione digitale” (LaPOP), a song born from reflection on the future and our relationship with technology.

Massimo Serli

Massimo Serli developed a passion for music from a young age. He briefly studied piano and then, as a self-taught musician, learned to play the guitar. He gained experience as an actor/musician in the Cultural Association Fabbrica delle Bucce, which used songs and live music in original dramatic productions following the street theater codes. From 2003 to 2006, he was a member of the Maxmaber Orkestar group, writing some songs for their first CD “Ancheniente!” He is currently part of the Playback Theatre company in Fvg as an actor and musician. Over the years, he has continued to write songs, especially in the Triestine dialect. In 2017, he enlisted Diego Primosi on percussion and Andrea Medeot on double bass for the live project “In parziale miglioramento altrove.” In 2019, their eponymous CD was released, featuring prestigious guests such as Stefano Muscovi on trumpet and chromatic harmonica.

Giovanni Zacchigna

Born in 1996, Giovanni Zacchigna began his music career in 2014 as a guitarist for the Agrakal group. This project, born out of an interest in singer-songwriter and Mediterranean music, underwent frequent lineup and instrumentation changes and performed in various concerts in the regional territory. Their first EP, “Prima rotta,” was released in 2016. In 2019, Giovanni released his debut album titled “Le Canzoni Della Stanza,” consisting of 9 songs. In 2021, Giovanni was selected by the Frattempi Festival to participate in an artist residency for singer-songwriters led by Edoardo De Angelis and Alberto Laruccia. In 2022, Giovanni, together with two local poets, created a project of music and poetry for the preview of the Dedica Festival in Pordenone of the same year. More interested in musical composition than literary composition, Giovanni’s lyrics often explore contradictions, moral questioning, and unexpected or hidden unease.

Rental0012

Rental0012 was formed in 2020 among school desks, born out of the pandemic. They began composing remotely and released their debut album, “Feel the air,” in December 2021 after a year of work. Their music spans various genres, including acoustic, indie, rock, pop, rap, and bossanova. They have participated in festivals and music competitions, such as the Casa della Musica Prize in Cervignano, and have been featured in interviews and podcasts for both Italian and Slovenian media. What characterizes the group is their partial Slovenian origin, which is reflected linguistically in their song lyrics. The four eighteen-year-olds later released an EP, “La vita in una sera,” marking a new musical phase. Their influences include Radiohead, American rap from the last decade, Tyler The Creator, Kanye West, Slowdive, My Bloody Valentine, Venerus and Mace, Verdena, and indie producer Ceri.

Raffaele Verdiani

Raffaele Verdiani is a rapper from Trieste, a member of the Katana Music collective, born in 1999 and known as Nagana. Since the age of 13, he has been on the path of writing and music, performing from an early age. He has also “rapped” in some performances by Pino Roveredo and has been involved in projects and shows (often coordinated by his brother Theo) like “Stolen Wordz.”

The concluding event of the event will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023, at the Casa della Musica, at 6:00 PM.
